It should have been a special day for Emma. It wasn’t.
She was stressed to the tearing point. And that was before the minor fender bender and the spilled coffee on her new silk blouse. By the time she drew into the parking lot, her hands on the steering wheel were shaking.

She stared blankly at the beauty salon doors, her head jam-packed with overwhelm, wondering what to do. At this point, she didn’t trust her own decision-making.

Her sister had given her a gift certificate for a facial but she doubted that she’d be able to relax enough to enjoy it. With a sigh, she felt for the door handle. How could she hurt her sister’s feelings?

Sanctuary Called Little Dipper

Fortunately for Emma, Little Dipper, the beauty salon owned by Jessica Magee, is largely different from most beauty salons. Jessica is an unusual esthetician and treats her clients holistically.
She is part of the Bliss Studio ATX, a group of wellness providers who embrace the concept of holistic health.
They like Jessica believe that the individual should be treated as an interlinked whole. In other words, if the underlying cause of headaches is a knot in your neck, then taking an aspirin does not get to the root of the problem. Undoing the knot does.

It’s one of her gifts. Being a good listener is rare and she’s a good reader, too—but more about that later.
When Emma walked in, Jessica could see stress in all caps clinking from every sharp angle. So, instead of hurrying Emma into the chair, they shared a fragrant tea and chatted about the best hacks to combat summer heat. They discovered a similar taste in music and wispy long scarves.

By now Emma feels welcomed and it isn’t long before she slips between white sheets that fold silken and cool about her. She can feel the tension melt away. She can feel her breath run smooth like wavelets on a sandy beach, almost giggling along the edges.
Only now does the actual facial routine begin.
